thisIZZit Productions presents
STATEN ISLAND! THE MUSICAL

An Original Musical Comedy by Matt Izzo and Sal Volpe

Director: Katlyn Cohen
Music Director: Andrew Monteleone

Set in the forgotten borough of New York City, Staten Island! The Musical redefines what it means to be a resident of Richmond County. On an island where every day feels the same, everyone’s looking for something more – from the ferry deckhand stuck in his routine to the aspiring actress searching for any reason to sail away; from those who swear they’ll never leave to the dreamers who can only envision a future outside of the confines of Staten Island. An array of Island personalities embark on an unpredictable journey towards figuring out what “home” actually means.

Our production will be sailing into port at two different venues this winter! One show, two cities!

CHARACTERS

ASHLEY (outgoing and motivated; 24-35): an aspiring actress dreaming of a future beyond the boundaries of Staten Island. She’s one ferry ride away from sailing away for good – and is always at odds with her hometown, borough-loving fiancé. Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano, G3-G5

MIKE (proud, aloof, hopelessly optimistic; 24-35): a ferry deckhand who’s already found contentment with his cyclical daily routine. When one door closes and another opens, he must grapple with the idea that his future may lie somewhere other than Staten Island. Vocal range: Bari-Tenor, A2-A4

MARIE (obnoxious and passionate; 35+): the neighbor whose love-hate relationship with Staten Island manifests itself in wanting everything perfect, so she’s not afraid to call out her neighbors, leave some windshield notes, and go out of her way to protect the innocent in all this – the wild turkeys. Vocal range: Alto, F3-F5

JACK (charismatic and clueless; 22-30): the best friend who always comes through – and the city planner who’s always personally responsible for the borough’s infrastructure woes. Vocal range: Baritone, A2-F4

CHUCK (dead groundhog; 18+): The Tragedy of Staten Island Chuck has led to new life and perspective for our beloved hometown mascot, who narrates our story and is eager to see if every day actually does feel the same. Vocal range: Tenor/Mezzo-Soprano, C3-G4/C4-G5

ENSEMBLE (various): mall walkers, pizzeria workers, ferry commuters, and more – these eclectic personalities show what a Staten Island slice of life looks, feels, and sounds like. Looking for dancers, actors, and singers who can fill minor roles and perform background work.
